Welcome.
We are a cooperative of musicians dedicated to providing a quality education in a supportive, artist-run community.
Meet the Teachers
Our Mission
At New Orleans Cooperative Music school, we want to create an ethical and healthy environment for both teachers and students to thrive. We aim to provide a high quality music education for our students. We also believe in building a strong community of musicians that support the arts and one another.
We are a worker owned cooperative which means that the workers have a stake in the school. The cooperative set up means that it is democratically controlled by the workers themselves. The goal of NOCMS is to make a profit for its members and to sustain the cooperative itself. If we create a sustainable environment for our workers to thrive, then we will be able to provide quality music education to community members.
We are a group of professional working musicians, not just hobbyists. We want to provide high quality instruction to our students. Our students should feel empowered to practice and make progress on their instrument each time they walk out of their lesson. Students should receive quality materials and be proficient on their instrument in accordance to where they are at in the learning process.
Music is also a very social art form. We want to create an environment for professional and budding musicians to be able to create beauty in a community that supports them. By providing masterclasses, group jams, and going out into the community, we can create a solid, healthy community of musicians.
